Design.

Front layout editing mode rotation below the shutter button. Besides the lens is auto focus assist lamp / self-timer, viewfinder and flash the right (not the flash and and very close to the lens design should be easy to cause red-eye). Beneath the lens is the key to change the rotation pin and adapter for Teleconverter or filter 58mm. Bottom of the machine design the battery compartment and memory card with a large lid, convenient operation. Threaded tripod in the middle of the bottom but not coaxial with the lens. LCD lid is on the left speaker, the opposite side of the design of an HDMI port, remote control, AV with plastic cover.

Above the G12 is the custom mode: the shutter button located on the actuating zoom, easy to use. Power button with blue LED status indicator machines enabling / disabling. ISO is a rotation correction to one-third stops with custom mode above, together with orange LED indicator on the left and ISO modes are used, round face with EV adjustment via hotshoe 5 points exposed just above the viewfinder.

The back of your PC screen LCD 2.8 " resolution 461,000 pixel, optical viewfinder with 2 status LEDs located on the right, followed by the Playback button, set within short-sighted / long-sighted to the left then to Shortcut button / Direct Print. Basically, the Canon G12 with custom functionality through the roundabout. For example in the manual mode is possible to adjust aperture and speed through 2 roundabouts Control / Front. In the shooting aperture priority, second rotation function on the opposite change. However, users can change the functions accordingly.

Shortcut buttons to adjust the functions include Unassigned, i-Contrast, White Balance, Custom White Balance 1, 2 Custom White Balance, My Colors, Bracketing, Drive Mode, Flash Exposure Compensation / Output, ND Filter, Aspect Ratio, Raw or JPEG, Image Size / Compression, Quality Movie, Servo AF, Red-Eye Correction, AF Lock, Digital Teleconverter and Display Off.

Lens.

Focal length of the Canon G12 is 6.1 to 30.5 mm (equivalent 28-140mm on a  film 35mm) for 5 times magnification. Machine focus from about 5cm to infinity at wide angle and 30cm to infinity when the zoom all sizes. Macro focus mode for about 1 to 49cm. Also can auto-focus for about 1 cm to infinity.

At the corner, sharpness of detail may seem soft on the whole focal range. When shooting wide angle, the phenomenon of chromatic aberration is well controlled, distortion is somewhat higher than normal embodied in the line, but still within acceptable limits.

Full manual.

Roundabout of the front machine also adjust the shutter speed and ring adjustable aperture. This is one feature makes the names of senior shooting line G-series. Aperture of the G12 allows for adjustment of about f/2.8-f/8 f/4.5-8 when shooting wide angle and distance, and speed is from 1/4.000 seconds to 15 seconds.

DIGIC 4 image sensor.

DIGIC 4 image processor uses algorithms to minimize false color, still light, long exposure noise reduction as well as when shooting at high speed, and display high-definition signal on LCD screen. Identification technologies such as context capture, advanced video features, face detection and motion are also integrated into the DIGIC 4.

Photo zoom from 28mm to 140mm from the G12.

At wide angle (28mm), G12 for a good photo results, the average blurry in corners, especially compared to the lower left corner in the center. At the 140mm focal length, better image quality, sharp corner only slightly blurry. The computer can evaluate the image quality is quite good.

G12 distortion at higher than average when shooting at wide angle (0.9%) and almost did not appear when shooting telephoto.

When shooting at wide angle, chromatic aberration in the average number per pixel, although not easily seen with the naked eye. When shooting telephoto, though less distortion, but easy to find the wrong pixel color to red and blue.

Saturation on the G12 performed well, however, the region dominant color such as red, green, brown and blue is the color of the medium over saturation. Bright yellow, blue lost a little detail. Background color to show through the color shift, for example, from blue to blue, orange and red to yellow to green. Light skin color are shown correctly, but is a bit cold, while the dark color shown is the warm, golden mean better.

For outdoor shooting modes like this, the machine works well under conditions of strong sunshine, a good reproduction of detail, although the relatively high default contrast. Need average exposure compensation (+0.7 EV) model to keep the skin should be light brown highlights on the shirt and flowers. Good color when using auto white balance, tone images of cold air when shooting portraits. Contrast can be customized to show better shadows.

The test images retain higher resolution details from 1,400 to 1,500 line for approximately 1,700 line JPEG and RAW images for viewing on your computer. If you use Adobe Camera RAW RAW image analysis taken from the analysis, the resolution is increased to 2600 to 2700 line.

Machine reproduce fine details in the ISO 80 to 200, there appear traces blur at ISO 400. Yellow and purple noise appear at ISO 800 in dark areas. Increased noise reduction at high ISO means less detail. However, image quality can still get above average.

In fact, at ISO 80 to 100, good print size 16 x 20 inches, good sharpness but still lost slightly. Color and edges show good. So at this ISO, so printing at 13 x 19 inch size.

At ISO 200, 13 x 19 inch prints for good detail but still appears in the shadow noise.

At ISO 400 images in the same size as the still used even though it was lost and noisy, so be reduced to 11 x 14 inches.

ISO 800 images are soft at 11 x 14 inch size, but not too much noise. However, the reduction in size 8 x 10 inches better.

At ISO 1600 and ISO 3200, good prints in sizes 5 x 7 inches.

Thus, to assess the quality of printed images from the G12 as well, showing the colors match, the more dark areas showing good to make up ISO, image size reduction.
