Thomas, Chip Marks, Kurt Loder O filme retrata os últimos dias de um músico à beira do desespero, sem qualquer visão de um futuro promissor, perturbado por uns fantasmas interiores que o consomem dia após dia. Blake (Michael Pitt) é uma estrela rock que envolta em problemas relacionados com a droga, falta de inspiração criativa e uma relação distante com a filha, começa a definhar num corpo já frágil e cheio de feridas internas. A morte é o tema fulcral de “Last days” e sabemos à partida que Blake não vai escapar dela: o filme procura mostrar-nos o encontro de um homem com a sua morte, a única escapadela possível para um ser que foge da própria vida. Excelente realização: tal como no anterior “Elephant”, Gus Van Sant percorre neste filme a personagem central e as secundárias com a sua câmara, mostrando-nos diferentes pontos de vista. Esta singularidade original resulta extremamente bem pois enriquece bastante o filme em termos de ritmo. A floresta misteriosa e purificante, é o lugar escolhido por Blake para divagar e refugiar-se do mundo em que vive. É no conforto da natureza que o músico parece reconciliar-se com o pouco de vida que lhe resta. Impossível é omitir a inspiração clara e assumida de Gus Van Sant em Kurt Cobain, o líder do mítico grupo Nirvana, fundador do grunge. Michael Pitt encarna esta representação de Kurt Cobain na perfeição tanto a nível físico (as semelhanças entre ambos são bastante visíveis) como a nível interpretativo. Apesar das poucas falas, Pitt é exímio ao interpretar este jovem inadaptado, ressacado e moribundo. É um filme difícil de assimilar mas belíssimo no seu minimalismo. Introspective artist Blake is buckling under the weight of fame, professional obligations and a mounting feeling of isolation. Dwarfed by towering trees, Blake slowly makes his way through dense woods. He scrambles down an embankment to a fresh spring and undresses for a short swim. The next morning he returns to his house, an elegant, if neglected, stone mansion. Many people are looking for Blake--his friends, his managers and record label, even a private detective--but he does not want to be found. In the haze of his final hours, Blake will spend most his time by himself. He avoids the people who are living in his house, who approach him only when they want something, be it money or help with a song. He hides from one concerned friend and turns away another. He visits politely with a stranger from the Yellow Pages sales department, and he ducks into an underground rock club. He wanders through the woods and he plays a new song, one last rock and roll blowout.
