In the palm-shaded oasis of West Hollywood, we meet Dennis, a promising photographer. As he prepares to celebrate his twenty-eighth birthday, he laments, ' I can't decide if my friends are the best or worst thing that ever happened to me.' The gang includes Benji, the punkish innocent with a penchant for gym bodies; Howie, the psychology grad student who thinks too much and lives too little; Cole, the charismatic actor who accidentally keeps stealing everybody's guy; Patrick, the cynical quipster, and Taylor, resident drama queen, who, until recently, prided himself on his long-term relationship. Providing sage advice and steady work is Jack, the beloved patriarch whose restaurant is a haven for them all. When tragedy strikes the group, the friendships are put to the test.

Martin, funcionário de uma piscina, não faz segredo em relação a sua paixão pelo atraente Lucas, um salva-vidas hétero. A atração de Martin é tão irresistível que não demora muito para que Lucas corresponda a ela. No entanto, quando ele descobre que Martin tem AIDS, seu sentimentos de medo e afeto o confundem.

This is a combination coming out and first love story. The swimmer and diver Lucard is interested in attractive Martin. The film follows the characters' coming out with all its difficulties, the bitter-sweet pleasures of first love and the dreadful moment when one comes down to reality and realizes that one's beloved friend has a hard way to go yet. The positive message the film tries to transmit is the somewhat common motto "Live each day of your life as if it were your last.

Martin aime les roses jaunes, le foot et les poemes de Paverse. A la piscine ou il est surveillant, il croise Lucas, le maitre nageur. Coup de foudre du brun electrique pour le blond reserve. Martin le poursuit jusque chez lui, ou son amie Lise l'accueille avec sympathie. Toujours effarouche et de plus en plus trouble, Lucas apprend par son pere, medecin a l'hopital, que Martin est atteint du sida, qu'il n'y aura pas de sursis. Par pitie, croit-il d'abord, par amour, s'avoue-t-il vite, il choisit de partager les derniers mois de la vie de Martin.
